Use Ranked Choice Voting for Santa Cruz City Council Elections

We, the undersigned, registered, qualified voters of the City of Santa Cruz, California, hereby propose amendments to the City of Santa Cruz Charter to use Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) to determine City Council Elections.

Using RCV, Santa Cruz voters have the freedom to rank candidates in order of preference, which gives more voice and greater choice and produces fairer results.

How can we get open primaries and national popular vote passed, for California’s votes to count come 2020? Also we need to “raise” voting age to 16. Too many bad policy decisions have negative affects on future generations, especially concerning climate, education and public health.

Ranked Choice Voting is a better voting system and we need to enact it so other cities/states do the same. Let’s be leaders in electoral reform.
